What is Carbon Fiber
Carbon Fiber is a very strong material referred to as “Graphite Fiber” occasionally. It is made of thousands of strands of crystalline filaments of carbon that is then twisted together to get it strength. It is extremally lightweight, significantly stronger than steel making its weight to strength ratio very low. Thanks to this, Carbon Fiber has been very popular amongst multiple industries including but not limited to Defense, Marine, Competition sports, Aerospace, and of course the Automotive Industry.
Advantages
- Aesthetics
- Options in colored fibers
- Low Weight:Strength Ratio
- Low Thermal expansion
- Tons of Aftermarket support
- Value for money
What is Forged Carbon Fiber
Forged Carbon Fiber is randomly oriented chopped carbon strands(Tow) placed in a mold with resin, and compressed to make a part.
As you can see in JDCustomsUSA stunning Toyota Supra, the carbon is randomly oriented to achieve a random yet unique finish every time.
Another way to get this finish is to use a Carbon Fiber Skinning method, and lay down the carbon strands over an existing part, which is more common, and more inexpensive option.
Advantages
- Light Weight
- Random Pattern
- Every piece is unique
- Replacement parts don't need to be directionally matched
